self evaluation on toy story 3 presentation

overall, i believe that my presentation went well, this was shown as i was joint 3rd in the class.

at the start of the presentation, i had newspaper reviews which gave the audiance an idea of what type of movie toy story 3 is, inorder to make it easier for the audiance i could have had more back ground infomation on the text.

i had good audiance interaction, this was evident when i played a game with them to name the charcters. it would have worked better if the whole class did not all shout out, but had put their hands up.

the media theory's that i had inculed was todorovs theory i did this by explaining it to relation to the film in which they have a equilibrium, disequilibrium, attempt to repair and new eqiulibrium.

to make the presentation more effective i gave personal expieriences that i had with the movie.

In order to have a better presentation i should have had stronger edding as my presentation ended suddenly.

what went well was the fact that i had a clear voice, good eye contact, good body language, and communicatied with the audience with confidence overall.

Media Institutions

Toy story is Disney animated movie, Disney are known for making huge blockbusters with animation and for it to have such a hype built up about it was no surprise, Disney alone have their own fan base and people watch Disney movies for the fact that Disney has made that movie, this means that the institution has a huge role in the success of the movie.

The text has been distributed by the institution over many different platforms, the internet has a huge role in how the institution distributes it, and for example face book pages were made for the movie to get it known about. The print platform was also used to get the movie herd of this is so that the more people see the adverts the more people that will go and watch the movie. Also having trailers of the movie on sites such as YouTube made it easy for it to be known about by millions of people.

Genre

Toy story 3 has a hybrid genre this means that it has a more than one genre; the main genre is Animation however the sub genres are, Adventure, Comedy, Family and Fantasy. The typical codes of convents of a animation is followed by toy story 3 this is done as for it to be a typical animation they must make it an animation.
They way in which toy story 3’s audience expectation is fulfilled is that as toy story 3 is a carry on from toy story 1 and 2 the expectation were set very high, in my opinion the standards that were set for toy story 2 were not fulfilled as I do not think it was as good as the first toy story however this might have lowered the expectation for toy story 3 but the makers of toy story 3 done a good job this is because as the main target audience had grown out of watching animations they had to make it understanding to the kinds that were not around when toy story 1 and 2 were made, as a animation you are not expected to concentrate or try to figure out the story which is what they had done they made it easy for new fans to follow and know what is going on. The text allows characteristics of genre to stand out as each character is portrayed as you would expect from a movie of this sort.
Toy story has stars such as tom hanks that is the voice of the protagonist woody. Tom hanks is not usually associated in movies such as animations but this would mean that older people would be interested in seeing the movie, for example if a mother of 2 was a huge tom hanks fan it would attract both the mother and the kids to watch the movie as the kids would be interested more in the character than the actor whereas the mother would want to go for tom hanks.

Narrative

The way in which toy story 3’s narrative is structured is that it follows the theory of todorov, it starts off with a equilibrium of ‘Andy’ the owner of the toys is going off to college and has grown apart from his toys, the disequilibrium is that the toys find out that they are being donated to a children’s play centre. To make matters worse for the toys they are made to feel unwanted by their ‘friend’ woody who has been chosen to go to college with Andy. The movie is then made to have an attempt to repair the damage this is done by one of the toy’s taking lead roll to help the toys get back to their rightful owner. At the end of the movie the new equilibrium is made and the toys return back to their owner.

The way in which the audience are positioned is that they feel as if they have an emotional bond with the toys and hope that they make it back to Andy, the emotions of the audience changes throughout the course of the movie this is for the reason that the toys go through moments in which returning back to Andy does not look possible.

The characters in toy story 3, are represented is in a manner of it’s a patriarchal society, this is made apparent by the males ‘saving the day’ this was done in the movie as the protagonist were buzz and woody, Jessie, Barbie and the sheep woman found themselves in distress at times in which it was up to buzz or woody to come and save them, in addition a dominant and alternative representation was made of males this was shown because you have buzz light year which is seen to be the muscle man and takes charge were ever possible and you have the alternative representation of a man in which you see ‘ken’ who is portrayed as a girls toy and seems to almost be gay.

As toy story is a sequel those that have been watching toy story from when it first started would know who the good guys are (hero’s) ‘buzz & woody’ however the villain always changes in toy story 3 it was lotso who is a an banded bear and has no trust in anybody and will do whatever to get him to a better place.
The role of sound plays a big part in the movie this is because the primary target audience are kids of the age of 4-15 this movie as a huge appeal to kids of this age group and as a 4 year old may not be familiar with certain words the sounds used help them to know what certain words could mean.
